Marina McClure is a director, producer, choreographer, yoga teacher and collage artist who champions collaboration in all of her theatrical endeavors. Her directing style focuses on expression through movement and theatricality and she is fiercely dedicated to the notion of collective creation.
She has directed for the New York & Capital Fringe Festivals, The Kennedy Center, Manhattan Theater Source, The Eugene O'Neill Theater Center and in found spaces throughout Washington, DC. Most recently she assisted director Maria Morett at the Getty Villa in Los Angeles.
She is the founding Artistic Director of the ensemble theater company, Odyssey Productions. Odyssey produces work in the Washington, DC and New York metro areas and is dedicated to the development of emerging professional artists. She is a member of Superhero Clubhouse and is currently producing their Planet Plays Series. As a 2007 Dartmouth General-Campbell Fellow, she collaborated with The Savannah Theatre Project on performances in New England and South Africa, and produced a symposium analyzing community performance.
Marina holds a BA from Dartmouth College where she was awarded the Gurdin Award for "Best Director" in 2004. She received a Waterhouse Grant for her production of Gao Xingjian's Nocturnal Wanderer, and recently was a guest director for the College's 78th Eleanor Frost Playwriting Festival.
Her academic interests focus on the relationship between nationality and performance. She is currently researching national identity in post-apartheid South African performance and writing an article on the Royal Court Theatre’s International Season.
Marina is currently an MFA directing candidate at the California Institute of the Arts and trains with Shiva Rea in Prana Flow.
